Question by VeggieTart — Praise Seitan!: What’s the best way to transfer a cake from the baking pan to the plate?
When I bake a cake, I let it cool in the pan in which I baked it and then try to put it on a plate. I always oil the pan. However, sometimes, the cake will break up as I’m trying to transfer from cake to plate. Does anyone have any tricks that will prevent this from happening? I don’t bake cakes much, but when I do, I’d like to prevent such mishaps.
Thanks!
jay, do you mean a springform pan?
Best answer:
Answer by jay well best thing to do is get a pan where its like a flat plate and there’s a band around it that u can take off. after baking u can just take the band off and use the bottom of the baking pan as a plate but u want to transfer, put a plate of top of it and flip it upside down and then use a another plate and flip it rightside up.

Chocoholics, listen up! Here is a great recipe for you. This old Hershey’s recipe for Cocoa Bundt Cake is fantastic. And it’s great for any occasion from birthdays to parties to pitch-ins, the list goes on and on. And here’s a holiday hint. For Christmas, crush a candy cane and sprinkle over the top of the glaze to give the cake a pepperminty, holiday taste and look.
This recipe was in an old Hershey’s recipe give-away.
1 2/3 cups all-purpose flour 1 1/2 cups sugar 1/2 cup Hershey’s cocoa 1 1/2 tsp baking soda 1/2 tsp baking powder 1 tsp salt 2 eggs 1/2 cup shortening 1 1/2 cups buttermilk or sour milk* 1 tsp vanilla extract Chocolate Glaze (recipe below)
]]>
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Generously grease and flour a 12-cup Bundt pan. In the large mixer bowl, blend flour, sugar, dodoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt; add remaining ingredients except chocolate glaze. Beat on low speed for 1 minute, scraping bowl constantly. Beat on high speed for 3 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally. Pour batter into prepared Bundt pan. Bake for 50 to 55 minutes or until a wooden toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pan and place on a wire rack to cool completely. Drizzle with the chocolate glaze.
Yield: 12 to 16 servings
*If you don’t have buttermilk, you can use 1 1/2 tablespoons vinegar plus milk to equal 1 1/2 cups. Allow to sit for a couple of minutes before using.
Chocolate Glaze:
1/4 cup sugar 1/4 cup water 1 cup Hershey’s Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips or Mini-Chips
In a small saucepan, bring water and sugar to a rolling boil, stirring until the sugar is dissolved. Remove pan from heat. Immediately add the chocolate chips. Stir mixture with a wire whisk until the chips are melted and the mixture is smooth. Cool until slightly thickened. Drizzle over top of cake.
Note: For a pretty presentation, add a few chopped pecans around the top of the cake over the glaze.
Enjoy!

Christmas is one of the four most important festivals of the Vietnamese year, along with the Buddha’s birthday, Tet (the lunar New Year), and the Mid-Autumn Festival. It is celebrated as the birthday of Jesus Christ, known here as “Kito”. The fesival is observed here with great gusto despite the fact that Buddhism is the dominant religion in Vietnam and Christians form only a minority.
Phat Diem Cathedral in Ninhbinh Province is considered the spiritual home for the seven million Catholics who live here in Vietnam, a predominantly Buddhist nation. Hundreds of Catholics gather for Christmas Eve Mass in the northern city of Phat Diem. Children stage a nativity play to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ-or Kito, as he is known in Vietnamese-in front of the city’s cathedral, built in 1891.
On Christmas Eve, Hanoians throng to the Catholic Cathedral in the city center. The streets are crowded with people and cars are banned for the night. People celebrate by throwing confetti, talking pictures, and enjoying the Christmas decorations and lights of hotels and department stores. Sidewalk cafes and restaurants are open so revelers can keep their lips wet for singing Christmas carols. As former colony, there are still French influences in the Christmas traditions of Vietnam.
Many Catholic churches have a nativity scene or creche with nearly life-size statues of Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus, the shepherds and animals. In some areas of Ho Chi Minh City, usually in Catholic parishes, people have crib scenes in front of their houses and decorate the whole street, turning them into Christmas neighborhoods. Also as in France, in Vietnam Christmas Eve dinner in called reveillon and has a buche de Noel ( a chocolate cake in the shape of a log ) for dessert. Vietnamese people like to give presents of food and a buche de Noel is a popular gift. Other Christmas presents are not very common, although some young people like to exchange Christmas cards.
Children in Vietnam believe in the existence of Santa Claus and put their shoes in front of their doors on Christmas Eve. On the morning of 25th December, they wake up to find their boots filled with treats and presents laid under the Christmas tree. Merry Christmas in Vietnamese is “Chúc M?ng Giáng Sinh” !!!

When preparing to have a merry little Christmas, you may find yourself stressed out with preparations, and resultantly, shopping for food at the last minute. Here’s a tip to help: visit an online supermarket. That way you can order all of the foods in this article and have online food delivery so you can gather your recipes while you shop. While Christmas and Thanksgiving tend to occasion similar delectable treats on the table, there are certain items that you should have, or at least know about if you want to have a Christmas to remember.
1. Appetizers: Hot dogs in a blanket are a fun finger food for your kids, and can be made more gourmet with a fine dipping sauce, such as a honey mustard vinaigrette. Mixed nuts are also a good idea, along with tomato bruschetta and spinach dips for raw veggies. If you really want to impress your guests, spread a light goat cheese inside split endives.
2. Wine: Depending on the meat you are enjoying with dinner, there are many options for wine from which to choose. Try a Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, or any other full bodied red if you are having dark or red meats, or a Chardonnay if you are enjoying turkey or any birds. If you are enjoying a ham that has a sauce or is honey baked, try a Riesling or iced wine. If it is a lighter ham, a Pinot Noir, Beaujolais or other French red wine is a good option.
3. Meat: Ham is traditional for Christmas. Roast turkey and pheasant are also popular. Steak, such as a New York or filet mignon, is also popular. Depending on where you celebrate, you may encounter Dungeness Crab or lobster, as well as duck or quail.
4. Sides: Stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, ginger carrots, and any other vegetable is fair game on a Christmas dinner table.
5. Dessert: This is a big one. Traditionally pies are popular at Christmas time. Pecan, apple, mincemeat, pumpkin, sweet potato and any berry pie are likely to be served. Some pies, like sweet potato, can be served at dinnertime and function as a side. Russian tea cakes and plum pudding are sometimes served as well. Gingerbread, cakes and cookies are popular and fresh marzipan is a treat. For those chocolate lovers, a flourless chocolate cake is a decadent addition not to be missed for any Christmas spread.
When you have a good assortment of foods from each of these five categories, you and your guests will be pleased. To save yourself time, buy your desserts pre-made and have them delivered from an online food delivery service. You can have your appetizers coordinated in a similar manner, or if you prefer, you can buy the ingredients yourself and make them.
